Lookout Bali the Schoolies are coming!

A GROWING number of Schoolies are choosing overseas adventures ahead of the traditional Gold Coast sojourn.

Travel agents confirmed the number of students looking to head overseas has risen dramatically this year.

STA Travel Australia product and marketing director Andrea Robinson said their annual Schoolie’s Week overseas package bookings were up 37 per cent compared to 2013.

“We have seen the most growth in schoolies heading to overseas destinations with Fiji seeing the most growth at 58% up on last year and Bali bookings up 23% on last year,” she said.

Ms Robinson said customers chose their schoolies destinations on the type of experience they wanted, their available budget, whether they wanted to stay close to home and where their friends were going.

The annual Schoolie’s Week celebrations involve Australian high school graduates from Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria traditionally heading to beachside destinations in the three states between November 22 and December 17 as a rite of passage, with the Gold Coast generally regarded as the most popular.
