The Bali Bird

Tanah Lots of People

Tanah Lots of People

Tanah Lot Puri or Tanah Lots as I say.

Tanah Lot Puri – Puri meaning Temple in Balinese is one of Balis most sacred Sea Temples dedicated to the Hindu guardian spirits of the sea.

Has anyone seen the ‘Snake’?

It is said to be protected from evil spirits by the sea snakes that ‘apparently’ inhabit the caves surrounding.

Cave of the’ Holy Snake’

With a small donation you will find yourself in a queue waiting with anticipation to see one of these snakes, which I was told has lived here in the same cave for centuries…hmmm…

One thing for sure is that I could possibly be the only sceptic here as hundreds of people flock to the grounds of this temple, especially Javanese.

A sixteenth-century priest named ‘Nirartha’ was the supposed founder of Tanah Lot and was one of the last Priests to have left Java for Bali. Hence the popularity of the Javanese and spiritual connection.

I did say ‘Lots of People”At Sunset this temple is absolutely stunning. With the beauty of its silhouette against crashing waves of the ocean I came to understand the fascination of Tanah Lot.

TIP – Majority of visitors are here for the sunset, which amounts to hundreds of people all exiting the carpark simulatneoulsy. Avoid extensive delays by leaving as early as possible.
